Frequently Asked Questions About Childcare Early Learning Centres
In a well-resourced Early Learning Centre, the education model shifts from caregivers to trained professionals researching and studying the cognitive and developmental milestones faced by three- and four-year-old Kindergarten children. Within this setting, children engage in dynamic indoor and outdoor play.
Early childhood education and care qualifications (sometimes known as child care qualifications) prepare students for employment in regulated care services such as child care, long day care, kindergartens, occasional care and family daycare. Thus, a career in early childhood is extremely rewarding.
Research has shown that the best age for a child to start daycare is at least 12-months-old.

Montessori Academy is Australia's leading Montessori Childcare and Early Learning Group. We deliver a Montessori Education Program for ages 0-6 that nurtures confident, courageous, and independent learners. Join our Montessori learning community today.
Introduction to Montessori Education
Montessori is a scientific approach to early childhood education developed by Physician, Anthropologist, and Pedagogue, Doctor Maria Montessori (1870-1952) more than 100 years ago. It offers a broad view of education as an aid and a preparation for life. The Montessori approach is based on scientific research into how children learn as they progress from birth to adulthood. Montessori recognised that every child is born with natural intelligence that can only develop with the right stimulation during their fir1t years of life.
Montessori Materials
Montessori materials are hands-on learning tools that guide children to discover key learning outcomes through repetition and practice. They isolate one concept or skill and are designed with an in-built control of error. This allows children to identify and correct their own mistakes. As children progress through the curriculum, the Montessori materials increase complexity, providing opportunities to extend learning. As a result, children master learning outcomes through repetition and practice.
Our Education Programs
Montessori Academy's Education Programs are child-centred, hands-on, and designed with multiple learning styles in mind. They focus on providing children with the optimal learning environment, materials, and guidance to discover their full potential. Programs are child-led and self-paced while guided and enriched by knowledgeable educators. In Montessori, the classroom, the students, and the educators come together to form a personalised approach to learning.
How is Montessori Different?
Unlike traditional preschools and childcare centres, Montessori learning is designed to nurture children's complete development by providing the optimal learning environment, materials, and guidance to discover their potential. Montessori learning is largely active, individually paced, often self-correcting, and tailored to the needs and interests of each individual child. The ultimate goals of Montessori Education are independence and preparing children with the tools and skills to become successful life-long learners.
Why Families Choose Montessori?
Choosing the right early education provider begins with finding the people, place, and program that makes you feel like your family belong.
Families that choose Montessori Academy value the importance of early childhood education and want their children to have the best start to life. This is a given.
Dig deeper, and you will find what we call a 'Montessori Mindset,' which is a set of core beliefs and values that shape how you parent, your aspirations for your child, and how you feel about the role education plays in life.

At Thrive, we want to make childcare easy for busy parents, and our centres are all-inclusive. All centres are fully equipped with catering facilities. Fees include all meals, nappies and wipes.
The thrive curriculum is all your child needs to begin their journey to learning for life.
Our curriculum incorporates the 5 major areas of learning. The combination of social, academic and physical aspects of growing is what makes all children special and unique. We encourage creative and structured play in all curriculum areas; this fosters children's curiosity and social skills. It may look to outsiders as if the children are just having fun, but teachers and psychologists know that play is how children learn. Through play, they become mini-scientists, exploring the world around them. But they also learn social skills and teamwork and discover what can happen when they let their imaginations run free.
Guided by the values and principles of the Early Years Learning Framework, we aim to create an exceptional place where children are always "learning for life".
The EYLF and Thrive curriculum aims to work on five very important outcomes:
OUTCOME 1: Children have a strong sense of identity.
OUTCOME 2: Children are connected with and contribute to their world.
OUTCOME 3: Children have a strong sense of wellbeing.
OUTCOME 4: Children are confident and involved learners.
OUTCOME 5: Children are effective communicators.

Quality Creative Resources for Every Need
Kidsversity is a family-owned and operated service located in the heart of local residencies, shops and train stations. We are a dedicated service to the community, providing children and families with a safe and welcoming place for learning, play and growth. We work closely with families and communities to ensure children.
Our goal is to create confident and educated young learners. Children are exposed to these skills and foundations during their time at Kidsversity will be learning that they hold on to and continue to use for a lifetime!
Menu and Nutrition
At Kidsversity all meals are freshly prepared in our home kitchen. The daily menu is a fortnightly rotated menu where children are exposed to a range of nutritious hot meals and snacks. The menu is tailored to suit the needs of individual children and meet the requirements of any additional food allergies.
Breakfast, lunch, morning and afternoon snacks are prepared daily throughout the routine, ensuring that children have ample opportunities to stop and enjoy a healthy meal or snack. Mealtimes can be tricky with children; however, we aim to use mealtimes as part of our teaching. This is because we believe mealtimes are a significant part of learning and growth. They provide opportunities for socialising, but they are also used as a learning tool for children where children are learning about health and nutrition, manners and etiquette, learning to try new foods and serving themselves and others.
We have been rated 'Meeting the National Quality Standards' across all 7 quality areas, which we were assessed against recently. We are very proud of our achievement as we strive daily to ensure the practices and programs we provide for the children are always of their benefit. During this assessment process, our compliances included the programs we provide regarding the health and safety for children, nutritious menus, our team collaboration and professionalism. We appreciate all the support, feedback and contribution to our programs, which has allowed us to demonstrate how we build close connections with families to support children.
Curriculum Philosophy
Our curriculum is based on the philosophy that families are children's most influential educators. Following this philosophy guides our practices to work closely with each family to ensure our curriculum can be tailored to suit each child's style of learning. At Kidsversity our educators take a very hands-on approach to teach children, always ensuring they get involved in the children's play themselves. This way, the teachers can immediately respond to children's responses and decisions to create meaningful opportunities for growth and learning.
Our educators follow a play-based approach, where learning is created through engaging in specific play environments. Our educators intentionally foster learning through asking intentional questions and using resources to achieve the developmental goal. Our educators ensure there is the meaning behind their decisions when formulating a curriculum where learning for children is holistic, meaning all areas of development are explored for well-rounded learning.
Learning Through Play
Our learning spaces and classrooms are strategically organised in a way that allows children to be selective in their choices for play, allowing them to be independent and capable participants in their play. Our educators are consistently engaged with children in a way where learning is achieved intentionally through children's play. Our educators are always thinking about the resources and supporting children's play to effectively enhance their learning.
Learning through play allows children to problem solve, negotiate ideas, and respond appropriately to various challenges. Children are effectively building on both academic and everyday learning, allowing for holistic growth. We follow this approach in both the indoor and outdoor spaces, which is highlighted through our philosophy.
Kiddies On First Childcare Early Learning Centre Sydney, NSW
(02) 9712 2221
Welcome to Kiddies on First early learning child care centre, located in Five Dock in Sydney's inner west. Our aim is to provide a warm, nurturing environment that encourages the whole child's development.
The centre's philosophy is to offer a safe, home-like environment that supports the cultural and individual needs of families based on open communication. We aim to provide a holistic learning environment that is challenging, stimulating and educationally sound. A place that is friendly, inviting and welcoming to all.
To provide an environment that encourages children to develop their capabilities and interests at their own pace and according to their individual needs. To offer a program that recognises the uniqueness of every child and provides positive encouragement for the child's continued growth.
The educators at Kiddies on First follow the Early Years Learning Framework to extend and enrich children's learning from 14mths to 5 years and through the transition to school.
The centre ensures quality, standards and continual improvement by adhering to the Education and Care Services National Law, the Education and Care Services National Regulations and National Quality Standards. Educators plan the curriculum following the learning outcomes outlined in 'The Early Years Learning Framework'.
Service Philosophy
The service staff ensures quality, standards and continual improvement by adhering to the Education and Care Services National Law, the Education and Care Services National Regulations and National Quality Standards. In addition, educators plan the curriculum following the learning outcomes outlined in "The Early Years Learning Framework."
When providing education and care for the children in our setting, our approach is holistic and inclusive. We aim to develop each child's understanding of the world in which they live by developing the skills, knowledge and attitudes to prepare them for a lifetime of learning. In addition, we aim to develop a child's ability across all developmental areas.
We view each child as creative, capable and naturally curious. Children are eager to explore and discover the world around them and may use more than "100 languages" (Loris Maluguzzi). We acknowledge that children learn through play and recognise children's agency from the early years.
We provide a safe home away from a home-like environment and operate as a family grouping centre. We believe that the current trend of smaller families and children spending more time in out of home care means many children have little contact with children across a range of ages. Mixed-age grouping gives children opportunities to be part of a diverse group and, with educator support, develop empathy and become tolerant of others. We believe that mixed-age grouping has the potential to support children's social and emotional learning. Children who are settled and older often take on leadership roles and support those who are less capable than they are while at the same time building their own self-confidence and self-esteem. They model language, turn-taking and sharing. Mixed-age grouping allows less confident pre-schoolers to mix with younger children and, over time, build their confidence in mixing with the same age and older peers. Educators adapt the curriculum and their teaching strategies to support children's development and maximise the educational benefits for the whole group.
We understand the importance of connecting children to the natural world to develop their respect for maintaining the health and beauty of the environment. We are committed to teaching children to care for and respect the land on which we live and work. We teach the children to acknowledge that we are indeed on Wangal land and are passionate about embedding an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander curriculum. We value outdoor learning pedagogy and are inspired by the theory that the environment is the third teacher. We believe our outdoor environment encourages exploration and inspires creative play.
We believe in encouraging children to express themselves, their view and encourage them to engage in experiences that develop self-reliance, self-esteem and self-regulation. Therefore, our educators actively listen to each child throughout the day in order to genuinely understand their needs and strive to create an environment of culturally rich and stimulating activities and quiet times where each child feels safe to seek comfort and reassurance.
We believe in fostering a team approach where all our educators are equally respected and valued for their contribution. Therefore, we employ highly qualified educators and empower all educators to continually upgrade their qualifications to foster staff continuity.
Educators view every child as a unique individual with their own interests, needs and strengths. Educators understand that children mature at different rates and have preferred styles of learning and our educator's aim is to provide an enriched, flexible program. We understand that children learn best when the program reflects their interests and has meaning for them personally and plan our program based on careful observations of each child's individual knowledge, ideas, culture, abilities and interests. We foster project-based collaborative learning, initiated by children, families, educators, or the wider community to support creative thinking and problem-solving. Our educators are in tune in grasping teachable moments. They are aware of and embrace the fact that every moment maybe a learning opportunity.
A major influencing factor on the development of children is their family: both the way they interact with their family, the way they see their family interact with others, and others with them. The centre endeavours to continually promote a collaborative partnership with families and communities. The educators believe that effective relationships between educators and families are fundamental to the quality of education and care children receive. Each child indeed comes to this service with different funds of knowledge, and we do embrace that. Kiddies on First recognises that all families are different, and the educators aim to achieve this partnership by establishing and maintaining positive, trusting relationships, valuing family backgrounds, experiences and child-rearing practices.
Kiddies on First is operating a service for the local community and endeavours to cooperate with and develop an understanding of its ever-changing needs. Our service practice does reflect the community context in which we operate. Educators value the process of continuous improvement by reviewing, reflecting and evaluating service policies and quality care practices. Kiddies on First is committed to involving the local community in all aspects of the service, including programming, planning and celebrating with us at our events, as they indeed can have a direct and positive influence on the child's wellbeing.

Prepare Early Education Program
The Prepare Early Education Program (EEP) is designed to cater for individual learning styles and encourages children to be confident, active participants in their learning. Together with our play-based learning environments, our inquiry-based programs actively promote children's learning through relevant and challenging experiences that foster high-level thinking.
We view the child as an independent learner. Accordingly, our play-based curriculum, guided by the Australian Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), aims to create an environment that engages, intrigues and supports constructive learning.
Our Philosophy
We are committed to ensuring that each child is supported to reach their full potential. We aim to do this by providing a quality educational program delivered by passionate educators in an inclusive, warm, and secure environment for your child.

Ashfield Early Learning Centre provides educationally appropriate and stimulating programs to assist in developing the whole child; their physical, social, emotional, cognitive, creative and moral growth. We recognise the value of play in development. Research has found that children attain higher levels of achievement through engaging in play.
Our educational play-based programs assist each child to build and develop at their own individual pace with guidance and support.
Curriculum in the early childhood setting means 'all the interactions, experiences, activities, routines and events, planned and unplanned, that occur in an environment designed to foster Children's learning and development'. [adapted from Te Whariki]
We have incorporated an inclusive program to support the needs and creativity of children. Our program aims to be the core of our curriculum and reflects the Early Years Learning Framework – EYLF.
Our curriculum for all rooms, 0-2, 2-3 and 3-5 years, is based on Australia's Early Years Learning Framework. This program is a national Early Learning Framework for children from birth to five years.
Using this framework, educators will observe each child's learning so they can build on it and plan the next steps. They will do this by listening, watching and talking to your child and will keep photos and a portfolio of your child's work to show what they are learning, how they are developing and what particular learning interests them.
Each age group displays their routine and learning journey in the room. This is available for parents to read and ask questions regarding it can be answered by the appropriate educator. In addition, we use Kinderloop, which allows families to receive instant notifications of their child's day.
Educators will keep in touch with you regularly to discuss your child's progress, and if they feel there is an area of concern, they will inform you and advise where help may be sought, e.g. speech therapist. It is always your decision to follow this up. Educators are willing to discuss any aspect of development with parents.
Early Years Learning Framework
The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) conveys the highest expectations for all children's learning from birth to five years and through the transitions to school. It communicates these expectations through the following five (5) Learning Outcomes:
- Children have a strong sense of identity.
- Children are connected with and contribute to their world.
- Children have a strong sense of well-being.
- Children are confident and involved learners.
- Children are effective communicators.
The framework provides a broad direction for early childhood educators in early childhood settings to facilitate children's learning.
The Early Years Learning Framework has been developed to ensure each child receives quality education programs in their Early Childhood setting. This is a vital time for them to learn and develop. Research states that brain development is greatest in the first years of life.
The Early Years Learning Framework's vision is for all children to experience play-based learning that is engaging and builds success for life. It is a guide for Early Childhood educators who work with children from birth to five years. They use the Early Years Learning Framework, in partnership with families, families being each child's first and most influential educators, to develop learning programs responsive to children's ideas, interests, culture, strengths and abilities, and recognise that children learn through their play.
The Early Years Learning Framework describes childhood as a time of Being, Belonging, and Becoming:
- Being is about living here and now. Childhood is a special time in life, and children need time to just 'be' – time to play, try new things and have fun.
- Belonging is the basis for living a fulfilling life. Children feel they belong because of their relationships with their family, community, culture, and place.
- Becoming is about the learning and development that young children experience. Children start to form their sense of identity from an early age, which shapes the type of adult they will become.
Play is very important for children. Through play, babies and young children explore and learn to understand the world around them as they come to communicate, discover, imagine and create.
When children play, they are showing what they have learned and what they are trying to understand. This is why play is one of the foundations of the Early Years Learning Framework. Using the Early Years Learning Framework, educators will guide your child's play by carefully designing learning activities and stimulating indoor and outdoor learning environments.
It is well known that children learn best when they have secure relationships with caring adults. When children from a very early age develop trusting relationships, they feel more confident and can explore and learn. In Early Childhood settings, when children feel emotionally secure, they learn through play to develop the skills and understandings they need to interact positively with others and gradually learn to take responsibility.

At Petersham ECEC we seek to provide a warm, safe, caring, home-like environment that is stimulating and meets the individual needs of children and their families. We work together to create an environment that promotes equality, fairness, respect and appreciation for our natural world. We will also endeavour to create an environment of comfort, safety and aesthetics.
At Petersham Early Childhood Education Centre (ECEC), we have over 25 years of experience in providing a fun and safe environment for your children to learn and play. We are a family-owned and operated business located in a beautiful vintage victorian building which provides a warm, home-like environment.
Petersham ECEC is designed to provide a friendly, caring, and family-orientated environment for children aged two to six years. It is a home away from home feel for all the children and educators.
The centre is open from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm, Monday to Friday (except public holidays) and only close for a short period over the New Year break.
Our centre is led by nurturing, enthusiastic, and passionate educators dedicated to the children in their care. They are continually supported and empowered to inspire and think creatively and to continue to refine their knowledge and upskill their qualifications. We believe that educators have an important role in ensuring that meaningful interactions occur so that children can thrive and be happy little learners.
Our Program
Our experienced and qualified educators teach specialised programs to ensure the children's skills, interests, ideas, and needs are all being met based on the Early Years Learning Framework.
The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) is a national curriculum framework launched in 2009 that provides direction and influences program development in all early childhood services. The principles of Belonging Being and Becoming as outlined in the Early Years Framework provide a guiding framework for the educators at Petersham ECEC to develop reflective and supportive teaching practices that scaffold children's learning.
This includes a school readiness program aimed at preparing the children for school and beyond. Our aim is to provide appropriate experiences based on every child's capability through close observation so that children become successful, competent and capable learners for their further schooling years.
In addition to quality educational programs, the centre also provides an online portal software called 'Story Park'. This offers parents the opportunity to log in and see throughout the day what their children are learning, their current interests and how we extend their knowledge with our resources provided to them through our daily experiences.
At Petersham ECEC the children also have the opportunity to participate in sustainable practices by learning how to use the worm farm composting system. The children recycle fruits and vegetable scraps from their meal times to give to the worms, in which the children explore the continuous process. The centre also has an onsite herb garden and citrus tree, which is easily accessible for the children to get involved in hands-on experiences. With a sustainable program available at the centre, the children develop and explore awareness of the relationships with other living and non-living things and observe, notice, and respond to change. Furthermore, children then develop an awareness of the impact of human activity on environments and the interdependence of living things.
The centre believes that forming connections with our families via community participation contributes to the children's learning process. Children develop a sense of belonging to groups and communities as we encourage them to understand the reciprocal rights and responsibilities necessary for active community participation. As we contribute and connect children to their world, the children learn and practise respect, fairness, and a piece of increasing knowledge in taking responsibility for their environment. Children are then able to begin to recognise that they have a right to belong to many communities. We facilitate this by providing monthly excursions and incursions, where the children can explore our diverse community. Petersham ECEC also offers children with a choice to learn a second language at the centre. In addition, our morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea menus are also reflective of cultural diversity and are respectful of preferences, allergies and intolerances of the children.

Therefore, we aim to use colour and space to create an open learning space. Our Children's work is displayed in this space, and toys, books, provocation tables, and supplies are available to children so that they can direct their learning through play.
Our physical setting is designed to create a social climate that is safe, welcoming and supportive so that children are enthusiastic about their education, collaborating with their peers, and trusting their teachers.

What Is The New Learning Framework About?
We have developed the Early Years Learning Framework to ensure your child receives quality education programs in their early childhood setting. This is a vital time for them to learn and develop.
The framework's vision is for all children to experience play-based learning that is engaging and builds success for life.
It is a guide for early childhood educators who work with children from birth to five years. They will use the framework in partnership with families, children's first and most influential educators, to develop learning programs responsive to children's ideas, interests, strengths, and abilities. They will also recognise that children learn through their play.
The Early Years Learning Framework describes childhood as a time of Belonging, Being and Becoming.
Belonging is the basis for living a fulfilling life. Children feel they belong because of their relationships with their family, community, culture, and place.
Being is about living here and now. Childhood is a special time in life and children need time to just 'be’—time to play, try new things and have fun.
Becoming is about the learning and development that young children experience. Children start to form their sense of identity from an early age, which shapes the type of adult they will become.
Play Is Learning
Play is very important for children. Through play, babies and young children explore and learn to understand the world around them as they come to communicate, discover, imagine and create.
When children play, they are showing what they have learned and what they are trying to understand. This is why play is one of the foundations of the Early Years Learning Framework.
By using this framework, educators will guide your child's play by carefully designing learning activities and stimulating indoor and outdoor learning environments.
Relationship Are Key
It is well known that children learn best when they have secure relationships with caring adults. When children from a very early age develop trusting relationships, they feel more confident and able to explore and learn.
When children feel emotionally secure in early childhood settings, they learn through play to develop the skills and understandings they need to interact positively with others and gradually learn to take responsibility.
How Will It Work?
Educators will use this new framework in a range of early childhood settings, including long day care, preschools and family daycare to ensure that your child receives a high-quality experience. It has been created and trialled by experienced early childhood educators, academics, parents and carers.
The framework focuses on your child's learning. First, educators will work with you to get to know your child well. Then, they will create a learning program that builds on your child's interests and abilities and keep you in touch with your child's progress.
Through the framework's five learning goals, educators will assist your child in developing:
- a strong sense of their identity
- connections with their world
- a strong sense of wellbeing
- confidence and involvement in their learning; and
- effective communication skills
Watching Your Child's Progress
Using the Early Years Learning Framework, educators will observe your child's learning so they can build on it and plan the next steps. They will do this by listening, watching and talking to your child.
They will keep in touch with you regularly to discuss your child's progress. They may use photos or keep a folder of your child's work to show what your child is learning, how they are developing and what particular learning interests them.
Before your child starts school, educators will prepare information about your child's learning and development to share with their new teacher. This will help ensure that your child's new school is well prepared to continue your child's learning.
Together
By working together, parents and educators can enhance a child's learning and wellbeing. As the most important person in your child's life, you can make a difference by talking regularly with your child's early childhood educator and asking about their learning. The information you provide allows educators to link your child's experiences at home with the time they spend together in the early childhood setting.

At Lilyfield ELC, we believe that our children are powerful agents and active citizens of our present and our future. We provide a unique and innovative approach to children's early education and care by empowering our youngest minds.
Core Learning
We recognise how self-identity, context-rich and respectful accounts of children's strengths and interests can be interwoven to provide a rich and meaningful curriculum to our community of young learners.
Thinking Skills
We believe that when children are curious, they explore, ask questions, and solve problems with greater persistence and commitment. Therefore, our educators facilitate higher-order thinking skills, such as creative and critical thinking, hypothesising and enquiring to further enrich our children's learning.
Sustainable Practices
We recognise and respond to the importance of embedding sustainable practices in our curriculum. We are committed to nurturing the next generation's minds to be sustainable thinkers who are conscientious and environmentally minded.
Health & Wellbeing
At Lilyfield, Health and wellbeing are integral to our curriculum. Our holistic program encompasses the concepts of nutrition, physical wellbeing, rest and relaxation, enabling children to make healthy choices for life.
